TCMC and QSNCC Deliver 50,000 Square Metres of Carpet Worth THB 4.7 Million to 14 Sites

TCMC, in collaboration with the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center (QSNCC) and Carpet International Thailand, has delivered 50,000 square metres of used carpet from a global conference, with a total operational value of THB 4.7 million, to 14 temples and educational institutions. The carpet came from the 2026 Annual Meetings of the Boards of Governors of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group (Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group), held from 12 to 18 October 2026 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center in Bangkok. The project was established to reduce waste from large-scale events through end-to-end management covering removal, sorting and transport of the carpet for communities to reuse effectively.

Rather than allowing the carpet to reach the end of its useful life at the close of the conference, the business sector and venue management worked together to pass the resources on to religious places and educational institutions with genuine need. The 14 recipient locations are spread across Bangkok, Pathum Thani, Nonthaburi, Uthai Thani, Chai Nat and other provinces. This systematic operation enables good-quality carpet from an international conference to continue benefiting society and tangibly connects business with the community.

Extending Materials from a Global Conference into a Circular Economy Approach

Mr Pimol Srivikorn, Chairman of TCMC, stated that the company aims to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions, or Net Zero, by 2050 while continuously driving the organisation in line with the BCG model. This carpet handover project is an example of taking materials that have completed their commercial purpose and returning them to benefit society, extending product lifespan and reducing event waste. The company worked alongside the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center as a key partner to pass on the value of these resources to the 14 temples and educational institutions.

Returning a total of 50,000 square metres of carpet into circulation reflects the practical application of circular economy principles through reuse. This process helps preserve the value of materials within the usage cycle for longer and reduces the volume of materials that would otherwise become waste after a major conference. It also aligns with the Bio-Circular-Green Economy, or BCG, concept and sustainable business practices that account for post-event resource management.

  • Removal and sorting: Collecting and sorting the carpet by condition immediately after the conference to preserve material quality for further use.
  • Transport to communities: Distributing the carpet to 14 temples and educational institutions across Bangkok, Pathum Thani, Nonthaburi, Uthai Thani, Chai Nat and other provinces.
  • Building sustainability: Reducing event waste and supporting the 2050 Net Zero target under the BCG framework.

This collaboration serves as an interesting case study for event organisers, convention venue managers and hotel professionals seeking to elevate event operations in line with sustainability principles. Operators can apply the post-event removal, sorting and material handover practices to tangibly reduce waste from large-scale events. Planning resource life extension in partnership with communities therefore represents a significant opportunity to create social benefit and raise standards across Thailand's events industry.
