Thailand Ministry of Public Health Backs 4 Wellness Pillars Ahead of GWS 2026 in Phuket

The Ministry of Public Health has announced that it will systematically advance its wellness economy policy through four pillars covering health, culture and Thai wisdom, in order to create new economic value for the country. Mr Pattana Promphat, Minister of Public Health, announced the progress on 23 September 2026 and said the policy will be an important foundation before Thailand hosts the Global Wellness Summit 2026, or GWS 2026, in Phuket province in November 2026.

The Ministry of Public Health has laid the groundwork through seven pillar policies for Thai public health, ranging from promoting health at every stage of life through a primary care network, to building a health economy that generates income under the Health for Wealth concept. It is also upgrading services to green hospital standards while looking after the morale of public health personnel.

Thailand's 4 Wellness Economy Pillars

Beyond the broader policy framework, the Ministry of Public Health is specifically driving the economic dimension through four wellness pillars, as follows.

• Upgrading medical and wellness services (Thai Medical & Wellness Hub) Developing preventive and rehabilitative medical standards to international levels, while creating high-skilled jobs for Thai workers.
• Upgrading Thai massage and traditional Thai medicine wisdom Using Thai massage wisdom and herbs to build an identity recognised worldwide, helping to raise incomes for massage therapists and traditional Thai medicine practitioners across the country.
• Herbal innovation and health products Using technology to turn Thai herbs into high-value products, creating a reliable market for farmers who grow herbs.
• Connecting the grassroots economy Distributing income from health tourism directly to communities and small operators, in order to reduce inequality over the long term.

Mr Pattana said all of the policies aim to turn Thailand's health potential into income that genuinely reaches farmers and grassroots communities, rather than being only an overall growth figure.
