Phuket Marriott Resort and Spa Appoints Dieter Ruckenbauer as New General Manager

Phuket Marriott Resort and Spa, Nai Yang Beach announced the appointment of Dieter Ruckenbauer as its new General Manager on 22 October 2026, taking responsibility for overseeing operations and setting the long-term direction of the resort located on Nai Yang Beach in Phuket province. With more than 30 years of experience in the hotel industry, he aims to create experiences that connect guests more deeply with local cuisine and the surrounding community.

From Executive Chef to Hotel Management

Dieter began his career with Marriott International in 1996 as a Management Trainee in Salt Lake City, United States, working across several departments including Rooms, Food and Beverage, and Accounting before discovering his aptitude for the culinary arts and rising to become Executive Chef at JW Marriott Hotel Bangkok. That experience behind the stove became the foundation that led him to view food as a tool for telling the story of a place and its culture, rather than merely what is on the plate.

In 2010, he transitioned into full-time management as Hotel Manager at Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel, before joining the pre-opening team for Bangkok Marriott Marquis Queen's Park and shaping the direction of several restaurants within the hotel. Later, in 2018, he took on his first General Manager role at Vana Belle, A Luxury Collection Resort, Koh Samui, before moving on to manage Le Méridien Bangkok, where he oversaw a multi-million-dollar renovation project and repositioned the hotel in the market.

Highlighting Local Ingredients and Engaging the Phuket Community in Storytelling

In his new role, Dieter sees the resort's potential in its rich beachfront location on Nai Yang Beach, its dedicated team, and its service that genuinely reflects Thai hospitality. He plans to work closely with the culinary team to bring ingredients from the Talat Ching Pla fishing community, produce from farmers in Thalang district, and goods from the Sakhu community to the resort's restaurants and bars, allowing guests to experience the way of life and culture of Phuket's northern coast through each dish.

Beyond dining, he also places importance on team development through an open working culture that supports career growth with Marriott International, while planning to build partnerships with the community through local products, environmental activities, and initiatives that benefit both local residents and visitors.
