Jiangsu Shows Ancient Chinese Weaving and Embroidery in Budapest for European Tourists

The China Cultural Center in Budapest, in collaboration with the Charm of Jiangsu Global Communication Center, has organised an exhibition of ancient Chinese weaving and embroidery art in Budapest, Hungary, to showcase the history and beauty of traditional textiles from Jiangsu Province for Hungarian audiences up close. The event is part of Jiangsu's efforts to expand its tourism market in Europe.

Tracing the History of Weaving Through Three Exhibition Zones

The exhibition is divided into three main zones covering the history, craftsmanship, and innovation of traditional Jiangsu textiles. Exhibits include Ming Dynasty ceremonial attire, replica Nankeen fabrics, and decorative accessories crafted from Nanjing Yunjin brocade, the renowned woven textile of Nanjing. Visitors can learn about traditional weaving and embroidery techniques while absorbing the cultural stories behind each piece of fabric.

Alongside the exhibition, the China Cultural Center in Budapest held the 7th edition of the "China Story" lecture series on the topic "Nanjing Yunjin Brocade: Woven Clouds of Jiangnan". An inheritor of Nanjing Yunjin brocade weaving was invited to share the history of silk weaving in the Jiangnan region, the unique techniques of this textile, and the historical export routes of Nankeen fabric to Europe.

Expanding Into a Cultural Conference and Tourism Campaign

On the same occasion, the "Charm of Jiangsu" Cultural and Tourism Conference was held alongside a "Nihao! China" event under the theme "Chinese Cities I Have Visited", broadening the perspective from weaving and embroidery art to urban landscapes and travel experiences in Jiangnan. Two Hungarian guests shared their experiences of studying in Nanjing, visiting historical sites, and tasting local cuisine, while representatives from four travel companies and airlines presented themed travel itineraries, travel support services for visiting China and Jiangsu, and flight information between China and Hungary.

To attract more international visitors, Jiangsu Province introduced 10 proactive measures to boost inbound tourist spending alongside the "Next Stop, Jiangsu" tourism promotion campaign. Jiangsu Province stated that it is continuously accelerating the expansion of its tourism market in Europe, including Hungary, and hopes this event will serve as a starting point to further strengthen cultural and tourism cooperation with Hungary.
