Gother reports solo travellers make up over 70% of bookings in 2026

Gother says solo travellers made up over 70% of bookings and targets 4.6-fold growth in gross booking value by 2027 under its Beyond OTA strategy.

Gother reports solo travellers make up over 70% of bookings in 2026

Gother, a Thai online travel platform, released booking data to mark the company's second anniversary on 23 September 2026, showing that bookings for solo travellers accounted for more than 70% of all bookings on the platform. This reflects the behaviour of modern-day travellers, particularly working professionals who choose to travel around their own free time and interests rather than waiting for long holidays or travel companions. The company also announced it is moving forward with its Beyond OTA strategy, expanding its role from a flight and accommodation booking platform into a complete travel and lifestyle ecosystem.

Solo traveller bookings surge to 70% of total bookings

Data from the Gother platform shows that bookings for solo travellers account for more than 70%, followed by couples' trips at 12% and group trips at 8%. This figure reflects that many travellers do not view solo travel as a fallback option when they cannot find travel companions, but instead choose to travel alone to suit their own free time and personal interests.

Working professionals with high purchasing power are the key customer base driving this trend, spending on short breaks, health and wellness activities, sports, concerts and other lifestyle experiences that no longer need to wait for a special occasion.

Chiang Mai, Phuket and secondary cities win over travellers, Japan tops international destinations

The most popular domestic destinations on the platform are Chiang Mai, Phuket, Songkhla, Udon Thani and Khon Kaen, showing that travel demand is not concentrated only in major tourist cities but is also extending to cities known for their distinctive food, culture and local way of life. The most popular international destinations are Japan, Vietnam, China, Taiwan and Malaysia, which are convenient to travel to and suit both short trips and independent trip planning.

Entering year three, Gother KLUB takes centre stage as sports tourism services expand

Mr Anupong Kriangkrailipikorn, Chief Executive Officer of Search Engine Optimization Co., Ltd. and founder of Gother, said that over the past two years, Gother has grown as a Thai travel platform that understands the needs of Thai travellers, while using technology to create business opportunities for Thai tourism operators at the same time.

In its third year, the company plans to build on Gother KLUB under the concept "Book Your Moment with Gother", dividing experiences into three groups: Cheerful Moment for fun and celebrations, Active Moment for self-challenging activities, and Recharge Moment for rest and recovery. The company will also expand its sports travel services for sports popular among Thais, such as football, tennis, golf, Formula 1 and MotoGP, covering everything from tickets and flights to accommodation and pre- and post-event activities, using AI to help analyse customer needs alongside a Thai-language service team available 24 hours a day.

This news is of interest to hotel and accommodation operators looking to target solo travellers, as well as organisers of sports and lifestyle travel events seeking booking partners. It also serves as a useful reference for travellers planning solo trips to popular destinations at home and abroad.
