The Strand Hotel Yangon, Dusit Collection: A historic riverside hotel
The Strand Hotel Yangon, Dusit Collection is the 2nd hotel under the Dusit Collection brand, following WE Hotel Toya, Dusit Collection in Japan. The building first opened in 1901 and has been restored to preserve its original Victorian architecture, including high ceilings, Burmese teakwood floors, marble and local craftsmanship. Inside, there are 32 suites in total, ranging from the 55-square-metre Junior Suite to the 200-square-metre Strand Suite, complete with 24-hour butler service, an outdoor swimming pool, fitness facilities, spa services, workshops on traditional music, flower arrangement and traditional costume photography, cooking classes with a local chef, and the Strand Hall event space, which accommodates up to 720 guests.
For food and beverage, The Strand Café serves traditional Myanmar cuisine, international dishes and the Strand High Tea set. Meanwhile, Sarkies Bar, named after the hotel's former owners, offers classic cocktails, fine whisky and grilled dishes in a wood-panelled room. Additionally, the hotel is scheduled to open The Strand Restaurant within this year to serve fine-dining Myanmar cuisine made from local ingredients, set amidst interiors decorated with chandeliers, inlaid marble floors and lacquerware from Bagan, accommodating 45 guests along with a private dining room for another 10 guests.
ASAI Yangon Sule: A city-centre property and who benefits from this news
ASAI Yangon Sule is the 5th hotel under the ASAI Hotels brand, designed under the Live Local concept on Alan Pya Phaya Road, near Yangon Central Railway Station, Bogyoke Aung San Market and Shwedagon Pagoda. The hotel features 85 rooms measuring 15 to 30 square metres, along with the Western restaurant Babette Eatery & Bar, which has both indoor and outdoor seating areas for socialising. Guests can experience the Yangon way of life through Burmese tea-making workshops, classes in the traditional martial art of Lethwei, Myanmar Buddhist meditation practice and local food-tasting walking tours.
The opening of these 2 hotels therefore provides new options for travellers seeking accommodation in Yangon, both in the form of historic riverside suites and a city-centre property near tourist attractions, as well as for event organisers requiring meeting, banquet and wedding spaces that can accommodate up to 720 attendees. At the same time, hotel professionals can study Dusit Thani's market expansion approach, which integrates Thai service into both a legendary hotel and a contemporary property abroad.
