Economic Vision and Support for Target Industries
The seminar was graced by Mr Ekniti Nitithanprapas, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, who presided over the opening ceremony and shared his vision on the topic of building investment partnerships. The Thai government has announced its move to drive the economy through a strategy focused on high-quality investment, targeting prominent industries such as future automotive, medical and health, smart agriculture, and the creative economy. Thailand has strengths in being a connector that has long been trusted by foreign investors, especially investors from Japan who are a main force in driving the Thai economy. In addition to investments in core industries, both countries also have plans to further build on cooperation in infrastructure, clean energy development, and the implementation of AI technology to increase competitiveness.
The Secretary-General of the Board of Investment provided additional information that investors from Japan still hold the position of the most important investor group in Thailand. During the past five years, there have been over 1,380 applications for investment promotion, representing an investment value of up to 396,500 million baht. The industry groups that received the highest interest are semiconductors, automotive, and chemicals. The BOI is therefore preparing measures to elevate industries towards a Smart & Sustainable Industry to encourage the business sector to adopt modern technologies in production lines. This also includes developing personnel to meet market demands and facilitating comprehensive business operations.
Joining Forces in the Capital Market and Elevating Technology for Sustainability
Meanwhile, the Japan External Trade Organization, or JETRO, emphasised the investment direction of Japanese companies in Thailand, which is primarily focused on sustainability, especially investments in the renewable energy and electric vehicle sectors. The automotive sector has adopted a Multi-Pathway strategy to comprehensively accommodate market demands. Furthermore, JETRO is ready to act as an intermediary to connect Japanese and Thai companies in order to promote research and development, including the implementation of cutting-edge technologies, whether it be in Green Transformation, as well as Digital Transformation and Automation Transformation, to elevate production standards and create new industries in the region.
As for the Stock Exchange of Thailand, it has participated in supporting the growth of the business sector through capital market mechanisms, by being ready to provide opportunities for potential companies to access funding sources to expand their businesses through trading boards such as SET, as well as mai and LiVEx. A key project mentioned in the seminar room was the BOI to IPO project, which helps drive businesses in new industry groups to raise funds efficiently, as well as the development of infrastructure to support business operations in accordance with ESG principles, or Environmental, Social, and Governance. The organisation of this event therefore reflects the strong cooperation of all sectors.
This news is extremely interesting for international conference organisers, entrepreneurs in the Thailand MICE circles, and hotel workers, as it reflects the readiness of event venues and infrastructure in Thailand, as well as investors and businesspeople who are looking for opportunities to access funding sources or further build on technological cooperation with leading organisations.
