Marriott International Signs Two New Hotels in Khao Lak, Phang Nga
Marriott International has signed two new hotels in the Matalay project in Khao Lak, aiming to elevate Phang Nga into a comprehensive lifestyle destination.
Marriott International announced a partnership with KS Hotels & Resorts on 2 October 2026 to proceed with the development of a new residential and resort project on the Khao Lak coast in Phang Nga province. This agreement signing paves the way for the launch of two new hotels: Matalay Khao Lak, Apartments by Marriott Bonvoy, and Moxy Khao Lak Memories Beach, within the Matalay project area. The development will transform an area of over 1,250 rai into a leisure destination featuring a 1.4-kilometre stretch of beachfront, a lake, mountains, abundant forests, and a renowned Thai surfing spot. This project aims to elevate tourism in Phang Nga into a holistic lifestyle destination.
Retro-style leisure space and residences for the new generation
Moxy Khao Lak Memories Beach will be the first Moxy brand to open in southern Thailand. The property's building will be located in the northern part of Memories Beach, offering 160 playfully designed rooms. The interior decoration will focus on a lively retro style, inspired by early surfing culture. Additionally, there will be communal areas such as the Moxy Bar & Restaurant, a poolside bar, a large fitness centre, and a spacious beachfront lawn to accommodate events amidst a relaxed seaside atmosphere.
For long-stay accommodation, Matalay Khao Lak, Apartments by Marriott Bonvoy will be the first apartment brand in Thailand to launch within this large-scale project. The accommodation will consist of 60 two-bedroom units, with each unit offering a spacious living area of 110 square metres. The rooms are fully equipped with everyday living amenities, including a full kitchen, washing machine, and dryer. Guests can choose rooms with pool access or those with a sea view, catering to families and digital nomads seeking a relaxing experience like a second home amidst nature.
Lifestyle activities and comprehensive facilities
The southern area of the Matalay project will be developed into a new running track and bicycle lane, approximately 3 kilometres in length. This exercise route will wind through the forest and lake, providing a convenient connection to the JW Marriott Khao Lak Resort & Spa. Beyond relaxing in their rooms, visitors can also participate in a variety of activities within the destination, whether it is kayaking, taking surfing lessons with the local community, accessing health and wellness services, learning about elephant care, playing mini-golf, or watching live music at the beach bar. Travelling to the project is also highly convenient, as it takes only 75 minutes by car from Phuket International Airport, which is currently expanding to accommodate up to 18 million travellers per year by 2029.
