Global Thai Silk Exhibition to Gather Designers From 100 Countries, 11-18 Oct 2026

The Tourism Authority of Thailand, together with the Thai Silk and Culture Promotion Association, has launched the Amazing Thailand Global Thai Silk Exhibition at Siam Paragon from 11-18 October 2026. The exhibition will showcase fashion pieces newly designed and made from Thai silk by designers from more than 100 countries around the world. The project is being held to mark Thailand's hosting of the 2026 Annual Meetings of the Boards of Governors of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group, which will be attended by tens of thousands of participants from around the world.

Collaboration with Designers from 100 Countries

The Thai Silk and Culture Promotion Association sent more than 500 metres of black Thai silk to its network of designers in over 100 countries, for them to design and tailor into garments reflecting each nation's identity and culture, blended with Thai silk to create a diverse range of contemporary works. Mr Edward Kitti, founder of the Association, said that this year's IMF and World Bank meetings will be attended by more than 15,000 participants from 191 countries, including media from around the world, making this an important opportunity to showcase the beauty of Thai silk and Thai culture to the eyes of the world.

This concept builds on a silk initiative held when Thailand hosted the APEC meetings in 2022, when the Association gave Thai silk to designers from APEC member economies to blend with their own local fabrics, with the resulting works displayed to economic leaders. That initiative received a positive response and inspired the expansion of this collaboration to a global scale this time.

The Meaning of the Black Silk, and the Event Schedule

The choice of black silk for this project carries a meaning connected to a period of mourning, in remembrance of the grace of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother and Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendiradebyavati, Krom Luang Rajasarinisiripatcharamahavajrarajadhida. This story has led international designers to take a greater interest in studying the origins and meaning of Thai silk, turning the project into a space for cultural exchange and learning in its own right.

This event is of interest to Thailand's MICE organisers looking to study a case study of holding a side event alongside a global conference, as well as to tourists and hotel workers in the Bangkok area who will benefit from the large influx of visitors during the same period.
