Free Fire is restructuring its 2027 Free Fire World Series into national competitions to find Global Finals representatives competing for a 50 million baht prize pool.

Free Fire Restructures 2027 Esports Competition With 50 Million Baht Prize Pool

Free Fire has officially announced a format change for the Free Fire World Series esports competition in the Southeast Asia region for 2027. It will shift from a regional league format to fully hosting national-level competitions instead. This significant change covers key countries in the region, namely Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, and Malaysia. The main objective is to provide each team with a clearer competitive pathway within their own country, and to pave the way for the best-performing national teams to earn the right to directly participate in the Global Finals. The year-round competition will feature a total prize pool of over 1,400,000 USD, or approximately 50 million Thai baht.

A New Pathway to the Global Finals

Under this new competition structure, competitive teams from the Southeast Asia region will still retain the right to compete in the Global Finals with 8 teams per season, remaining unchanged. These participation rights will be allocated to 7 teams that can qualify directly from national competitions, while the remaining 1 team will come from the winner of the special qualifying round, known as the Last Chance Qualifier.

Regarding direct qualification rights for the global stage, the champions and runners-up from the competitions in Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam will advance immediately to the Global Finals without having to wait. Meanwhile, another direct slot will belong to the champion team from Malaysia. As for the final slot for the Southeast Asia region, it will be decided through the Last Chance Qualifier, which is a competition to find the strongest team among 12 teams. This round will consist of the third to fifth-place teams from Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam, combined with the second to fourth-place teams from Malaysia.

A Massive Prize Pool for Two Seasons in 2027

Regarding the domestic competition format in all four locations, there will be a total of 2 seasons per country held continuously throughout 2027. Participating teams will have the opportunity to compete for a regional total prize pool reaching 1,400,000 USD, or approximately 50 million baht. This massive prize pool will be divided into a seasonal prize pool of 700,000 USD per season. The competition organisers will reveal further in-depth details about the competition format and the official competition schedule for followers to be informed of soon.

The news of this major esports competition's structural adjustment is highly interesting for event organisers and large-scale conference venues, as it is a regional competition with a highly loyal following and very substantial prize pool support. This could lead to massive offline event collaborations in the future, as well as helping to create noteworthy business opportunities for hotel professionals, who may need to prepare to accommodate competing teams, staff, and followers travelling to attend the competition.
